Thanks to the city’s monuments and to the different eras that they represent, Lyon has officially been classified as a UNESCO world heritage site.Beyond the Roman and religious legacy, Lyon’s regions are designed by magnificent monuments.Throughout the centuries, numerous renowned architects have embellished the city, including Soufflot, Mansart, Tony Garnier, Bossan, Delfante, Nouvel, Calatrava, Botta, Buren, Piano… These architectures whose fame extends well beyond the Rhône region have enriched the city with their masterpieces.

Unusual surprises Yesterday's culture joins Tomorrows' one... Today’s opera house stands on the site of an 18th century theatre, imagined by Soufflot and rebuilt in the 19th century by Chenavard et Pollet.The Lyon National Opera, renovated by Jean Nouvel, was inaugurated in 1993.With the same floor surface Jean Nouvel succeeded in tripling usable volumes by creating five levels underground and six levels beneath the glass dome.
